I love studying Song paintings, they are my spiritual guide. During the Five Dynasties, Tang and Song dynasties, emphasis was placed on using form to depict the gods, with the saying "to capture the gods and see their appearance, and to express emotions in the eyes.".
The portrait stones and bricks of the Wei and Jin dynasties replaced the depiction of details with simple outline descriptions, using ancient and clumsy techniques to outline vivid and concise individual images, giving people rich imagination.
In terms of image depiction, the simple waving of lines creates a flowing and lifelike feeling, but in Ming and Qing painting, both the techniques and the expression of spirit are vastly different from it.
Before the Song and Tang dynasties, there was a greater pursuit of artistic expression of the aesthetic concepts of "spirit" and "form". In Chinese painting, I prefer Xia Gui, who has a plain lake and distant mountains, shrouded in clouds and mist, and a distant artistic conception, creating a hazy beauty that only belongs to the East. I tend to grasp the freedom of space in my work creation, not limited to form, and my thoughts can be more intuitively expressed.
